Courtiser

This garment was designed as the final project for my Product Development Class. The assignment was to create a conceptual activewear brand. This enabled me to develop a marketing plan, create a professional tech and markers, and work with CLO 3D modeling software to analyze the fit.

Courtiser is a conceptualized luxury tennis line, inspired by the House of Chanel. The Colette Jacket and Olivia Dress is a prototype garment for a Spring 2019 line. These garments have been designed for our consumer to exude grace and elegance both on and off the tennis court. These designs have incorporated many of Chanel’s “signature” elements of their designs, like the pearl beading and use of tweed. Courtiser targets a growing trend in luxury activewear.

The Jacket pattern is a cropped warmup-cool down jacket. The boxier silhouette of the jacket is inspired by the classic Chanel suit. We wanted to take this design and reimagine it as a sportier, athleisure jacket. To incorporate tweed details into the jacket and to give this tailored piece a sportier feel we added very stream line princess panels of the black and white tweed. These panels continuous onto the back of the jacket as a bottom yoke. This blocked look is extremely trendy in the athleisure market and emphasizes the Chanel aesthetic. The tweed adds a luxurious element to this jacket, elevating it from an ordinary warm-up jacket to a Courtiser high fashion garment. Both the back and side panels have been carefully crafted and top stitched to create a flattering, sharp silhouette.  The body of the jacket is made from a luxury cream knit interlock fabric (70% rayon, 24% polyamide, 4% lyocell). The cream knit fabric allows for movement in the shoulders while still fitting and sliming the arms. Rather than using buttons as the jacket’s closure, the black metal zipper gives the jacket a more youthful, athleticwear feel to it to appeal better to our consumer. This jacket is also lined with a black sateen which offers further comfort, aesthetics, and ease of putting the garment on the body. The shoulders of the jacket have a tweed patch that has been hand beaded with pearls. This detailing further elevates the Colette Jacket to a luxurious market.

The Olivia Pleated Dress is made from the same cream knit interlock fabric with an accented detail of 100% polyester pleated chiffon fabric on the side of the dress.  This dress was patterned to be conforming to the body, with a side flared detailing to allow for movement as our consumer will be running up and down a court in the dress. We know that tennis exerts the player because of movement, heat and repetition, so the dress’s fabric and silhouette is breathable, has great stretch and retains its shape.  It has asymmetrical pleating on the side of the dress which allows for free movement for our tennis athlete. The pleating was carefully manipulated to have precise folds, a nice point at the top and a flowing hem. The pleating adds a luxurious touch to the dress with black and white trimming along the pleated insert. The combination of colors, fabric, embellishment and silhouette of the Colette Jacket and Olivia Pleated Dress exudes the Chanel look. This ensemble is a current prototype that can be mass produced and marketed to a wealthier clientele that is seeking athletic clothing that is timeless, elegant, and versatile.
